I don't think anyone in the organization saw this going any other way after trading the vets the last two season. I mean, just look at this team comparison. The Devils have almost 2500 less games played of experience than the next lowest team. That's incredible. The average age is also a full year younger than the next team.

He's also got that reputation of when he's not scoring he's not doing anything. I haven't seen enough of him to say that for sure, but when he had a big slump a few years ago I remember it was a big deal up in Winnipeg. But on the other hand, a pure goal scorer is absolutely a need. I think it depends on the price and if he's signing long term. I'm not interested in trading Nico for him

I didn’t just cherry-pick those guys. They’re all top 5 in scoring for NY (except Kreider who’s their top goal scorer). I’ll say it again, their best players are vets. We’re not even close to being built similarly to them.

2 of those guys were expiring and got NJ another 1st round pick. Not every vet signing is going to be able to get you 1st round picks. Now, trading one of your better Dmen for a conditional 4th....that's another story.

right now we are picking 3rd. after we lose the lotto and win outduring the stretch i see us picking around 8-12. so I'm focusing on those kids. need some defense and goal scorers. got way too many fancy passers.

Also- how did the Oilers get Bear? They drafted him... in the 5th round, way back in 2015 Wilde was a 2nd round pick in 2018 by the Islanders... You get picks, you hope some work out... The odds are, the early picks will be better, but we have players selected across the draft... just like us getting Jesper Bratt in the 6th round, or Miles Wood in the 4th... or Blake Coleman which we got a bounty for last year (3rd round)

Re: Fitz...we'll find out about him in the next couple of years. He's done a solid job trading away vets for future assets, but he's pretty much now fresh out of vets to trade. Now we'll see about "weaponizing" the insane amount of cap space. He can't sell me on a second-rounder and Boqvist for some 27-year-old who once scored 22 goals a couple of years when every last thing broke his way...I've had enough of those kinds of moves. You've got the money to spend, find someone worthwhile to spend it on. I get having flexibility, but enough with that. At some point, it has to start being about the present...not that I expect Fitz to make a flurry of off-season moves that will make them instant Cup contenders, but at least something that leads me to believe that 2021-22 isn't already being punted away.

While not impossible, I don’t know if that will happen. Nobody expected Fitz to come on, turn the franchise around, and be competitive this quickly. He also didn’t trade away guys like Zajac and Palmieri without ownership being on board. Sorry to say it but the sole thing we have to attract free agents is money. We are going to have to overpay some guys to get them here, and I am ok with that happening.

I did expect to score a goal. I raised the bar too high I guess.

What am I missing? What did you expect? It all youth playing against potential playoff teams.

He's been great in Vancouver with some of their young guys, maybe he could be a scoring winger for Jack? I also see Larsson coming back here. He'd definitely help our d-core and our PK.

I’ve reached the point where I’m going to start “screening” the games. I’ve been recording them, and then me and my daughter usually start watching about 30 - 45 mins after puck drop...now I’ll just check the score after the first period on my phone, and if it’s close, we’ll watch from the start. I can’t sit through this level of awfulness...either of us.

I'd definitely take him - I think he only got ousted from Tampa because they had such a deep team.

I'd like J.T Miller honestly, I think he could stir up some things in our top-6, and bring a little grit. Sure he isn't a world class player but he can bring something this team needs.

It isn't going to "magically" change anything, but having veteran players on your team makes a difference. It can be the difference between coming out in the second period of a 3-0 game and scoring a goal rather than letting the other team score a 4th.

It's something else that's on TV anyway.

The difference is they have Panarin, Zibinajed, and Trouba. We don’t have anyone anywhere near as good as any of them.

I don't think people realize how low a 22-year old average for our forwards is. It's incredible. We can expect 2-3 veteran signings up front during the summer. This should balance stuff nicely with Jack, Nico, Pav, Bratt, Shara, McLeod, Kuok, and others. I have no problem with our young players and I like how they've progressed all season and how Ruff handled them. But there is no way you can ice a lineup like this for the start of next season. No chance.

I know. Part or most of that post was in jest and facetious, but I just want some form of accountability and recognition. I guess I should watch the post game press conferences a bit more closely, but from what I've seen there's just not enough raw emotion. I essentially want something Torts-esque. Is it so much to ask for someone to be fvcking livid at the current situation? Because it's pretty depressing and infuriating at the moment. I know the team is young and maybe the organization as a whole didn't have high expectations for this season, but with 75% of the season beyond us, is this really where we thought we'd be at this point, staring down the barrel of 14-22-6, -32 goal differential, in 3rd to last in the NHL, looking up at the Red Wings, 4-16-3 at home, etc etc etc?

This is just wishful thinking for an easy/quick solution. This team is too green and going to be severely outmatched against any other team they'll play again this season. That is just the facts of their position right now. They might be the least experienced NHL team I have ever seen iced. Thank god we got that conditional 4th tho.

If we don't score a goal tonight, again, then someone should be fired tomorrow. I've said it before, but it bears repeating. Someone should be fired. Doesn't matter if it's the water boy or the head coach or Nico himself. Fire someone. Set a fvcking message that you have a goddamn pulse and you don't tolerate losing to your most hated rival, twice in a row, in embarrassing fashion. If you're not gonna fire someone, then blow something up. Take a dumbbell from the weight room and throw it full speed into one of the stalls in the locker room. And film it and put it on social media. Us fans deserve to know that at least the players and the coaching staff are pissed. Because right now they seem like they could give to fvcks, and it's an insult to anyone who happened to pay money to watch them this season, and an insult to those of us who still, for whatever reason, tune in to this garbage night after night. If I were Fitz, and I constructed this roster and paid these coaches and these players, and this performance tonight is what I got as a result of that, I'd take away the fvcking bus or plane or whatever mode of transportation the guys used to get to the stadium, and make them fvcking walk home. Or hail an Uber. Or take the goddamn F train. They don't deserve any luxury right now and they need some time to reflect on their performances lately.

It makes me completely sick that they got their two best players by simply being the New York Rangers. Why can’t top FA’s and college players be obsessed with playing in sunny California or beautiful Vancouver? Ugh. 2 more weeks until the NFL draft at least...
