Excited for this one tonight. I didn't get to see the Caps game. I was out in Columbia MD at a bar and assumed they would at least have the game on one of the TVs. Nope.

the question is, where does he play? He's a Right Defenseman; the Devils already have Hamilton and Marino ahead of him on the depth chart. Simon Nemec will likely be ready at the start of next season, but at the very least he'll be ready during Severson's extension. So who are you knocking off the right side? I'd much prefer they re-sign Graves, a left handed defenseman who's a year younger and likely a little bit cheaper.

As good as it felt to beat the Capitals handily on Saturday, and as good as our recent streak was, it might feel just as good or better to beat the sh!t out of the Rags, especially in their own building. Let's silence these clowns and inform them of the new reality that their window for a Cup was only open for a short time and has quickly closed, and ours has re-emerged. I hope they are ready to get used to seeing Hughes and Co. light them the fvck up for the next decade or two. Let's Go Devils!

Bernier doesn't even exist to me right now...I can't realistically ever include him as ever being part of the picture for 2022-23. Right now, it's clearly VV/Schmid/Blackwood, as far as who's in the 2022-23 fold...Schmid has temporarily forced himself into the picture...with each good game, he cements himself that much more into keeping his job up here. Agree that Blackwood should be kept around as insurance and I'm sure he won't like sitting, but it's one of those situations where it's more or less "Hey, you're injury-prone, you got injured, your overall body of work wasn't so impressive that you were guaranteed to hang onto your spot once healthy, and the guy who took your place is doing so well that it doesn't make much sense for us to sit him at this time." If Schmid falters or gets hurt, Blackwood will get another shot.

If he strings this sh!t out like Parise did, zero question I'll hate him too. Crosby has now famously said basically that team friendly discounts only work if eveery one buys into the mentality. Nico bought it, Jack clearly did, Siegs, etc. I'd love to keep Bratt, almost regardless of the cost because we know he works here. We KNOW he can gel with nearly everyone on the roster and can produce in Lindy and Brunette's system. The way I'm seeing this, Jack and Nico are doing what Letang and Crosby did when their time for extensions came up, Bratt is our Malkin, a team guy who wants his money and will probably get more than our Crosby (Jack in this analogy) and that's okay.

Or, perhaps, not everyone thinks exactly the same. There is zero question that at least Jack left money on the table. Maybe it’s important to him to be here and win here, and maybe it’s not as important to Bratt. I know you want to pin everything on the agents, but honestly, I don’t think they have as much influence on players’ decisions as you do. Nico and Jack’s agents definitely didn’t suggest that they should make LESS money without Nico and Jack telling them this is what they want. Of course, maybe Bratt has the same desire, and maybe he does end up taking less than what he deserves. It certainly doesn’t look like that is the most important thing to him. But if he doesn’t take less to stay I certainly understand. I’ll be annoyed, I’ll hate him like I did Parise, but I will get what he’s doing.

He already won the bet this season, to try to go back to that well would be borderline reckless.

The reason I don’t think it gets done is cause he is worth more than that on the open market if he keeps his current pace of play. This season (presumably) when paired with last season will show a significant upward trajectory in terms of production. Couple that with inherent inflation and I think his value is gonna be $1-2m higher

I don’t think there is any way I would be looking to move Blackwood right now. Even if he is the 3rd guy, we may need that depth in the event of an injury. Even if Bernier were ready to come back, I would have zero confidence that he would stay healthy. Blackwood’s injury being a knee sprain, it’s far more likely he will be coming back at 100% than Bernier, who has a hip injury. Blackwood is an RFA and even if his contract runs out, we can still get something for him via a trade. Now, the above holds true UNLESS a team loses a goalie and gets desperate enough to overpay. Then it becomes a much harder decision to make, do you take the chance that our guys stay healthy and trade Blackwood? Obviously, that would depend on the return, and if someone is willing to overpay, I can’t say I wouldn’t listen.
