ghdi
As we all know, our goal song is the infamous "Rock and Roll Part 2". While the song is rather ubiquitous in sport, I think that this is a terrible song for us to use because of its creator (Gary Glitter) and his involvement in sex with underage kids and child porn. With the news this week involving Penn State and their subsequent banning of this song at this weekend's game as well as future sporting events, I think it may be time to get rid of this tune here as well. I'm not trying to be overly PC, as I consider myself fairly "un" PC, and while Ive known who Gary Glitter is for a while, it really is not a song/artist that Id want the Devils to be associated with.
devilsfan26
I remember reading when they brought the song back that they worked out some kind of deal where he doesn't get any of the royalties anymore.
Devilsfan118
..wait, I can't tell if this is a sarcastic jab at how overblown this whole PSU situation is.. ..of if you're actually serious. Because, if you are..you're an idiot. Holy hell.
ghdi
..wait, I can't tell if this is a sarcastic jab at how overblown this whole PSU situation is.. ..of if you're actually serious. Because, if you are..you're an idiot. Holy hell. You consider the rape of children and adults overlooking it for at least 15 years overblown? Okay. Its also worth taking into account how Penn State was so much about perpetuating their idyllic environment (no NCAA infractions, etc) when there was a monster on campus for more than 30 years. 24/7 coverage of anything is overblown, but thats the world we live in. The song was written and is performed by a convicted child molester. I dont see how its idiotic to question its use when its so prominently used within this franchise. Obviously, PSU has a whole different outlook when one of their own is being accused of such awful crimes, but it still doesnt change the fact who created the song. I remember reading when they brought the song back that they worked out some kind of deal where he doesn't get any of the royalties anymore. Didnt know that. I imagine most who play/use it would have that deal now as well.

njdevsfn95
When I listen to the song, I think, "yay! we scored!" not "oh boy, he was a kiddy toucher." Seriously. He doesnt earn a dime from playing the song which is why we stopped in the first place.
2L3MI3UX2
I like Rock N Roll pt. 2. I have so many memories growing up celebrating that song. I think the "You Suck" at the end is beyond stupid... If there was an alternative I'd be for it, but nothing seems to do as well.
devilsfan26
Yeah I was fine with their decision to get rid of it so he wouldn't get royalties anymore and I'm more than happy with their decision to bring it back once he wasn't getting the royalties anymore. RowdyFan42
Tell ya what... we can stop using it when they start burning Michael Jackson albums in the middle of Times Square. I do hate the "You Suck" addition, though. And unfortunately, it's infected the fans here in Albany as well.
DevsMan84
There was a time about 15 years ago they played whoomp there it is at CAA as the goal celebration song one season. It did not have the same impact as the Gary glitter song
Devils Pride 26
I think the 'you suck' hate is overblown. There are much worse things that could be said.

I stopped doing it a bit ago. It is especially silly when the crowd does it even though we are losing 4-

Maybe the supporters section can come up w/ something different???????????? Know its off topic, but since the scandal is in this thread and as a disgusted alum....There is an Alumni fundraising effort in progress: http://rainn.org/ProudPSUforRAINN They're at around $250K with a goal of $557. I do hate the "You Suck" addition, though. And unfortunately, it's infected the fans here in Albany as well. Yeah, I heard some Albany highlights with it - my condolences. I'd like to change our goal song - the reasons ghdi lays out is a good PR rationale - but I have to imagine our fanbase can work 'You suck' into Zombie Nation too. jagknife
I think the 'you suck' hate is overblown. There are much worse things that could be said. Like doing Rangers Suck 4 times while down 2 goals last night?
ghdi
Tell ya what... we can stop using it when they start burning Michael Jackson albums in the middle of Times Square. Michael Jackson was never convicted of anything. Theres lots of doubt as to what he did or didnt do. Many people believe he is innocent of what hes been accused of. On the other hand, Glitter was convicted and did it again. There are no questions about his crimes. Im not against it being used espc with the knowledge he's not receiving royalties, but Im not against changing it.

Heard it done before in Buffalo [it used to be their goal song for the 4th goal and higher of the game.] -or- thanks to NHL 10 (?), I actually got used to this: 1:37-2:
PWW
Eh, I like the Devils' goal song. Is it the best? Nah. But it's far from the worst, too. Right now my favorites are Philly's (it pains me to say that but it's just a fun goal song) and Phoenix's (perfect for them and easy to chant along to). I'd kind of be against changing ours unless the team came up with something really good.

He was let off because no one wanted it to be true.

If you are not too young, OJ Simpson was found "not guilty" of murdering two people, yet in a civil case got crushed. Wake up man... For your own sake...
