I know it's pretty rare...I don't know of many players who were drafted as forwards who became defensemen, or vice versa. Brent Burns did it. Actually, I just remembered...many years ago, a certain Ranger winger was asked to transition to defense from left wing, just before his NHL career would come to an end. Some guy named Lindy Ruff. And apparently Lindy went from D to forward when he broke into the NHL: Edited November 2 by Colorado Rockies 1976
nessus
Byfuglien is another one who bounced between defense and forward. The rules typically don’t apply to him but that’s another example.

Colorado Rockies 1976
Nemec closing on an NHL season's worth of games in the AHL (regular and playoff games combined): 78 GP, 15 G, 29 A, 44 Pts, +21 His last 30 GP overall: 9 G, 17 A, 26 Pts, +9 I know these are only quick-glance numbers, but it feels like this kid isn't far away.

Hope to God he's not. I knew the D wouldn't be as good this season after losing Graves and Seves (we ragged on him but he at least brought SOMETHING to the table) but it's been atrocious so far
