fvcking Devils, needed to get that point huh? When we need the regulation loss, THAT's when they tie the game late in the 3rd. Oh well, Caps win.

They're going to pick up some points here and there. They're not going to lose out the season.

Schneider plays better when he sees more shots.  Not saying the goals were his fault, but he looked off tonight.  Don't think he tracked the puck that well tonight.  Solid effort for the most part despite being one of the most boring games all year.

I've been the (a) leading tank advocate..however I wanted to win that game last night..as the game went on it became more chippy and emotional.. I dont think the point will hurt, philly beat the hawks

regarding the actual game, i liked what i saw out of boucher - he was able to get his shot off a bunch of times in tight spaces and made a great pass to bernier on the 3 on 1. had some issues hitting the net but there is something there. reminded me of friesen with the #12 and the way he skated a bit.

From a team that was feared by everyone for a decade +... to 'tootoo', the only Dev that hits and balls to take on anyone.

Someone make a note to send this team to Pavel Bure's School of Skating in the offseason.

The Devils have consistently been the weakest team in this league for some time. Brodeur and Schneider have been getting hacked at for years now, no one seems to give a sh!t. When I played, I didn't even like the guy in net half the time, but I still went after anyone who looked at them twice. Edited by thecoffeecake

i didnt catch the game but just read this from Todd Cordell

1) For the second game in a row Reid Boucher found himself in the lineup. For the second game in a row Boucher played 12 minutes or less. He has four shots in his two games, and last night was the best possession player on the team posting a plus-5 shot attempt differential (65CF%) at even-strength. How was he rewarded? Well, he saw less ice time than all but one player on a team that features Jordin Tootoo, Stephen Gionta and Dainius Zubrus, who has eight points in 66 games, to name a few.

Boucher has been a big scorer throughout his career, and has always been heavily relied upon. I don't think it's fair to expect him to fill the net when he's on a short leash, and given limited minutes. This is hardly a legitimate opportunity to prove himself.

like i said i didnt catch the game but why wouldnt i believe at this point that we'd play Zubrus (a finished vet not producing) over a young gun who will be a part of our future and NEEDS to become something. And that in a meaningless game. Thats so Devils hockey. They have absolutely no logic

i agree. as this season winds down and its clear NJ isn't making the playoffs, its the perfect opportunity to give some of these kids a shot.  absolutely NO RISK, high reward.  why would you not want to test them out? its so deflating

Possession stats from one game - never change, Cordell.

not sure if you watched the game, but you could see that boucher played well. i pointed that out with my limited hockey analysis brain earlier. he's a guy that got his shot off in limited space and again, made a really nice pass on the 3 on 1 that bernier botched at the net.

tootoo has done more than enough to earn his spot in the lineup this year. and gionta is gionta - i don't love him on the 3rd line, but being in the lineup is fine. zubrus - at this point he's one of the worst forwards in the NHL. although he seemed to have better board work last night than the train wreck against LA.

So this guy thinks that Boucher deserves to play more because of non-scoring stats from two games, and possession stats from one game? And because Boucher has been 'heavily relied upon' throughout his amateur/AHL career? That's borderline idiotic. Should we also decrease the playing time of all our players who didn't play well yesterday? When could Boucher have played more even? How would the coaches know what his possession stats would end up being, with enough time to give him significantly more playing time?

Elias' passing has been God awful this season.

This is the last thing to go for a player. I thought early on it was due to injury. Wrist/elbow/shoulder injuries can really effect this area, but I don't think this is the case with Elias. My next thought is that he changed the lie of his stick. This makes more sense to me especially if he has back issues.  I am leaning toward this back/stick issue as the driving force behind his abysmal passing.

It's not that Boucher isn't getting minutes, it's that Zubrus and company are getting more. Kids created some offense. Give him more time

Zubrus got 13 seconds more.  Tootoo plays a different position, as does Gionta.  Could you argue for Boucher getting a minute or two more?  Sure.  Does he belong on the Oates power play as it's set up?  No, not at all, so that's out (another reason why it's a very stupid power play setup - the Devils just don't have the personnel for it at all).  Without that, it's going to be hard for him to be getting more than 15 minutes a game.
