Season’s over. Devils had every chance to pull closer, but pretty much impossible to pull that off when you go 8-11-1 over your last 20. Starting this GDT mostly because someone had to. I’m as disappointed and beaten down as anyone else here. Not going to pretend that a win today matters one bit, because the heater that the Devils need to force their way into a playoff spot is never coming. 22 more games for Luke and Nemec (and Bahl) to gain more experience and come in next year that much less raw. 22 more games for Jack to stay healthy (even if not fully) and rack up some points. If nothing else, watching Jack do Jack things is always fun. With each game played, that’s one game closer to putting this incredibly disappointing season behind us. That can’t come soon enough. No L G M F D from me. My enthusiasm is gone.

Biggest thing they could do now is get rid of lindy. They definitely need a new goalie, but with lindy out the team improves much faster. Even if it's Green. Fitz screwed this year over royally.

22 games left, meaning: - Smith will play 21, 19 of which stapled to Hughes side, and being a combined minus 18 over that span with 18 PIMs - Holtz, if not traded in the massive overpayment Fitz is about to do for Markstrom, will get 100 minutes combined but still net 7 goals playing with the talent equivalent of our equipment manager and Rich Chere as linemates. At exit interviews, Ruff will say “I thought he came into his own this season, but he never really showed us consistency on offense. He needed to grow where he’s planted, maybe next year. Why yes, I do hate those little meatballs from IKEA, why you ask?” - Timo will continue to get a shift here or there on his natural right side. He’ll score or produce exactly how we wanted him to, Ruff, “he’s another guy who needs to be more adaptive and work on that this offseason. He doesn’t play the Lindy…. I mean the Devil way. Once he does, he’ll be a really good player for us.” - Toffoli will get a 3x5 deal from Fitz, shortly after the Markstrom trade. He’ll score about a dozen more goals before the end of the year, two more hat tricks, but then his skates suddenly turn into literal concrete for the Foxwoods Final Five games. The board loses their collective minds. thats all I have for now. i’d say don’t get embarrassed today, but it’s the Devils that are lead by Lindy Ruff. yep.

I just came in here to say that Flyers, Lightning, and Islanders all win tonight. fvck you Devils. Gutless losers who don't play hard enough and make way too many mistakes. Yeah, I'm calling the entire fvcking team out. Dreadfully underwhelming season. Oh, you don't like that? Think it's unfair? Try winning more than two or three games in a row once or twice.

I want to say you're wrong about Ruff but I'm not that confident about the Devils pulling the trigger. With a new coach, things can turn around rather quickly.

How many times is it not the coaches fault, but the coach gets canned to make the change because you gotta do something and it creates results. It's part of the job. The fact they held pat on lindy is fvcked. It wouldn't have fixed the goalie issues but the team might have woken up. The season before last the team played great but couldn't get a save and went through like 7 goalies. You could see the team was there, they were good, they just couldn't get a save. This season they do not look like that team from 2 seasons ago. That team with Andrew Hammond in net could probably wax the floor with these guys. Long post to say, yea I agree.

Nice day here in FL too. I'm going out on a boat with some friends. Probably won't have much cell service to stream the game. I usually love when games are on National TV like this one on TNT because I don't get too many opportunities like that, but I'm not really upset about missing it.

I must be the only person who doesn't want Markstrom. He seems like a win now goalie move and the Devils aren't close to winning now. They are not a goalie away from winning anything yet. While last season was a blessing for long suffering fans, they were handled by CAR in the playoffs and this season is what it is. I think this team is better than their record indicates but not Stanley Cup contending better, even with Markstrom and a different coach (maybe Berube can be a Burns type influence). Next season is Markstrom's 34/35 year old season. He would absolutely make the Devils better but I don't think it's enough to contend and I don't really want to give up any decent assets for him knowing we probably have a lottery pick this year. If we need to give up assets for a goalie I'd rather do it for a youngerish goalie who can grow with this team. I don't know who that would be as I'm not a GM. But I don't think Markstom's the answer.

Sad part is, if this dopey organization 86’s Lindy, they might actually go on that run we think they are capable of and secure a playoff spot. But no, we gotta sit here status quo. Pure insanity. It’s not all Lindy’s fault, but to not take any action is downright criminal.

But hey, Daws+Holtz+Casey+First for Markstrom is just days away, price went up especially since they just freakin past us in the overall standings. He is Swedish though, so naturally once acquired, Ruff will use VV every game cause “he’s ready to get back in there and prove he can be our #1 goalie.”

The Devils were already toast…now they’re just burnt toast. Now it’s about the deadline and offseason, which are apparently the only times Fitz sees fit to make moves. Amazing how quickly his stock has fallen in our eyes, but he brought much of that on himself. He can earn back our trust, but it’s going to take a hell of an offseason for that to happen…not to mention MUCH more of an actual presence in seasons to come.

Don't worry, Ruff and Rogalski will be back at it next year with a healthy roster. No more excuses 😂

Attendance has been fantastic all season. It's the one thing that hasn't been a fvck up this season.

It won’t be VV/Schmid/Daws, of that I’m reasonably certain, no matter what. But I do believe Fitz will retain Lindy and use all the stupid excuses that the rest of us know are bullsh!t as his justification for doing so. I think that the news that dropped yesterday about Markstrom being Fitz’s #1 target and him being willing to wait until summer to get him sets it up for him to excuse away this season as ‘bad luck’ and for him to keep Lindy on to start next season.

I had confidence, even if it was overly inflated by hope and misguided optimism, going into Friday. Things broke their way almost perfectly: everyone ahead lost opening the door wide open for the chance to step up, snatch control of their destiny and be back in the driver seat. then the came out and laid a Taco Bell after a night of heavy drinking level loose stool of an effort, got absolutely embarrassed by a rookie goalie and then Jack’s shot attempt sealed it: confusion, too many what ifs in a single effort. kids have their final track meet today, I’m turning off notifications. I don’t want to know what’s happening live, I’ll be too angry in between races. yep, the 2023-2024 Devils have broke me on the season.

After last night's results I think we are done. 8 points out of any wildcard, 7 off the last divisional spot. Sell what you can. Hope you get a decent draft pick, and use that as a trade peice to get some immediate help in the summer.

Mercer plus our first-rounder for Markstrom. Then Markstrom gets coached by Dave Rogalski (because he's not getting fired as long as Marty is here), his play falls off a cliff, and it's back to the drawing board.

I see what Fitz is up to. He makes Markstrom the #1 target and puts it out there that he’ll wait until the offseason if necessary to acquire him. This gives him the excuse to punt on the season. But more importantly, it gives him an excuse to not only not fire Lindy, but to retain him next season. ‘Guys, I couldn’t get my goalie. I had to wait. We had a lot of injuries (even though we’ve had just about a full lineup for over a month and still can’t string more than a win or two together at a time consecutively). Lindy deserves a chance with the new goalie!’ This is what I believe we are being set up for. I really hope I’m wrong.

Fitz already planting excuses in the media for doing nothing (or adding one of the lousy expiring G this week — Kahkonen incoming?) Further to my earlier post, if he punts a stable solution to the summer, and thereby ends up paying more, he should be summarily dismissed. Markstrom totally kicking ass against PITT tonite btw despite being under heavy fire.

Our future is insanely positive and does not resemble our dark periods. The outlook of the remainder of the season? Not great at all.

If we trade for a goalie now… giving up 3+ first round picks (2024, Mercer, Holtz, Casey (2nd)) - I’ll be livid. Season is fvcked - no reason to dump the promise of this roster for mid goalies that doesn’t address the problem. Poor coaching, inexperienced defense, players afraid to shoot. Pack it in. Sell off the extra pieces (Toffoli) but leave our future intact. I still believe in our goalies long term, but we need a stopgap. We don’t need to pay deadline prices.

Good who cares lost anyways with or without goalie pulled. Atleast we have a better chance with goalie pulled but all 6 skaters looking like a sack of potatoes just standing around and not moving. Team is terrible.

This year’s Devils have definitely not done much to give these guys any consistent chance to succeed. Not to say that the goalies are blameless of course.
