RunninWithTheDevil
if the devils go 0-20 to start this season, can we still blame him?
Zubie#8
I believe NHL Tonight used him during the playoffs two seasons ago.
Colorado Rockies 1976
Let's start counting how often we hear "ya know" Johnny Mac still remains my favorite all-time Devil (I felt horrible for him when his coaching stint was such a disaster, even if some of it was his doing), but yeah, based on his postgame interviews as a head coach (I remember the "ya know"s and they were really hard to take), this doesn't seem to be a great fit, and like Tri said, I'm not sure how well this is going to work out for Dano or MacLean long-term. We'll see if they can both grow into their roles...in MacLean's case, it might simply be a temporary thing until he finds another job somewhere as an NHL assistant or AHL head coach. DJ Eco
I'm curious if they'd ever give Grant Marshall a chance on MSG. They use him in every corny capacity imaginable within the organization, but I think he'd be a good television personality, or at least has an animated color commentary/interview voice. Devilsfan118
I'm happy to see JMac back - I was absolutely one of the ones calling for his head during that nightmarish season, but I definitely don't think that tarnished his legacy here at all. I was going to say I'm worried about how he'll do with a camera in front of him (I'm expecting a ton of the cliche hockey phrases)..but if a guy like Dano can do it, anyone can. I don't mean that as an insult to Dano, but he's about as.. um.. he's a bona fide hockey player who made the transition well.

Triumph
Grant Marshall did get one game of color commentary on the radio that I happened to hear - he didn't stay away from cliches, but his love of the game (and reverence for Jagr) came through loud and clear. RowdyFan42
Is everything double-posting? I guess I'll find out. And it looks like it's just Hell, as the other forums seem to be working okay for me.

I mean you have to imagine the decision makers at msg at least approached him with an offer, no? Personally, if I were Marty, I wouldn't consider TV unless it were a high profile TSN or RDS gig, maybe NHL Network, which would be very possible. He has one foot in the door already at TSN. But the caliber of career he had, plus his personality, would make him a no-brainer in Canada. Edited September 25, 2014 by DJ Eco

NJDevs4978
Marty's final game exit was as good as it was going to get considering he wasn't planning on retiring.
devilsrule33
Watching jeter go out makes me sad Marty is such an ego maniac... This is so wrong... Jeter is finishing up one of the most ego maniac seasons in sports history. Brodeur does not compare to Jeter, and I don't even understand how you even got to this conclusion. Zubie#8
Jeter did not ask and honestly did not even want all of that attention at games during this season. He always made that clear. If you are saying that because of the promotions and commercials he was apart of then that is not fair as all. This is baseball, the New York Yankees for gods sakes. if Marty was on the Canadiens for his entire career I guarantee it would have been similar to Jeter retiring. Marty should have went out like Jeter by being respectful and saying the right things. Jeter knew when it was time to hang up the cleats, Marty is still hanging on to his skates and it is tough to watch. He's better than that and should of had a more fitting ending. Believe me, I have no love for the Yankees or Jeter, and I completely agree with your opinion on his farewell tour, but which is more egomaniacal: Announcing your retirement so far in advance that you get to spend the entire season having the league kiss your feet, or insisting upon a starter's job when you're barely good enough to be a backup and probably should have retired already?
