95Crash
It's frustrating seeing the Devils lose in the first round of the playoffs three years in a row, particularly since we all know that the team has such high hopes and/or expectations at the beginning of each season. Which of the last three playoff eliminations was the worst for the franchise? Which team should've went the farthest? Which one bothered you the most? Second most? Third most? Why? marker0045
game 7 vs Carolina. Just because of the circumstances. Edited April 30, 2010 by marker0045

thelastonealive
2009, 2008, 2010, in that order. 09 was just stunning and felt like a rip in the fabric of what was SUPPOSED to happen. I felt like we were supposed to win that series, supposed to win the next one, and at very least put up a good fight in the ECF. 08 sucked because the Rangers owned us that year. I think out of 12 games played, we won two - one in a shootout and one in overtime. That sucked something horrible. This year, while it sucks, was not entirely unexpected, and may - hopefully - lead to changes to make this team suck a little less in the end of the season and the playoffs. Neb00rs
what a depressing thread +1 I wouldn't be able to get through an answer without throwing my computer at the wall. In other words: I wouldn't be able to get through an answer.
RSC
2008 and 2010 they gave us some heads up. Last year, it went from "second round, b!tich!" to "fvck, we'll win it in overtime" to me throwing sh!t in my living room in 80 seconds. Even though 08 and this year were against our most hated rivals, I had time to prepare myself.
iamtheprodigy
+1 I wouldn't be able to get through an answer without throwing my computer at the wall. In other words: I wouldn't be able to get through an answer. It seems kind of repetitive the way you said that. It seems kind of repetitive. Sorry, not trying to be a jerk but I couldn't help it. As for the topic at hand, I don't think I could rank them. They're all really horrible and pathetic for different reasons. Hard to decide which was worse, but they were all awful. njskaguy33
My picks are the same as last...2009, 2008, 2010. 2009 was lost in such a such a heartbreaking fashion, it trumps pretty much every loss, except maybe the 2001 Finals, that the Devils ever had. So close, yet so far away type of deal. 2008 was the Rangers and that stunk for obvious reasons. 2010. it was pretty clear after Game 3 that this was a wash. Jeez, after the Game 4 loss, most people on this board had written off the season for dead, and they weren't wrong. Easily the least dramatic of the three. Little food for thought: In each of the last three playoffs, we came up against the only teams we had zero regular season success against. Rangers owned us in '08, Carolina was always a pain in the arse in '09 and we couldn't win a damn thing against Philly in '10. Just an extraordinary streak of bad pulls...not that team didn't deserve to loose most of those series, Carolina being the one they didn't, but it's still pretty shocking. NJDevs4978
Well this year in its totality was far worse than the other two (especially with it being the fourth straight end of the season at home), partly because the team just quit on the season from mid-January on and also partly because they DID have the talent to go far in the playoffs, unlike most of the years since the lockout. I mean even with sleepwalking the whole second half we still finished with the #2 seed and didn't have Kovy for 75% of the season, played with Elias, Zubrus, Clarkson and Martin on the shelf for long stretches and all were back for the playoffs. Granted we didn't match up well with the Flyers during the season but it didn't feel similar to the Ranger thing of two years ago (to me), especially with two less division games. Plus we had won four of five going into the playoffs and appeared to have turned on the switch. I figured if we could just get up on them we'd be good to go for a while but we got behind and folded. The actual Game 5 itself was easier to deal with in a way since five minutes in our fate was sealed, but it was the culmination of three months of suck. Last year even if we had beaten Carolina I didn't really think the team was going anywhere after that regardless given the way they finished the season and with the way we were featuring the checking line. But that was the all time have the air taken out of the baloon moment, and embarassing. It wasn't enough that we gave up the lead late, we even managed to choke the OT away. '08 was just kind of inevitable that we'd lose, especially after Game 1...we were all just reduced to hoping it wouldn't be in a sweep or at home. LucifersDog
Game seven 2009 when Marty had am 80 second lapse. Then there was 2008 series when Marty cough up another series. And last the 2010 when Marty fvcked up game one and then played better than the rest of the Devils team for the remaining series.
DaneykoIsGod
2008 I'm just a fan, I don't have anything to do with what happens on the ice. But what happened in the stands inside our own arena during this series still makes me sick. All the blue, the AV-ERY and HEN-RIK chants. The Devils might as well have had zero home games in that series. Just typing this is making my stomach turn.
nyrsuck26
2009 by far the worst. 2008 and 2010 are about even behind that if you ask me.

Revan
2008. It was the year I hated the Rangers more than ever. That was the year they beat us 7 out of 8 times during the regular season. The year when Avery brought the a$$holeness to a whole new level. The Marty chants at our arena were also more frequent than ever (even though I've never been to the Rock, I felt totally embarresed just hearing that on TV), the Rangers fans were giving us sh!t on every occasion on the web and everywhere else. Just when we thought it couldn't be worse, we met them in the playoffs, lost all of our home games, let Avery become a part of the NHL history in the eyes of Rangers fans (can't stomach anyone talking about the "Avery rule"... ) and then celebrate after game five at the Rock like it was MSG. The summer after that was absolutely awful, I couldn't stop thinking about that sh!t. The next two years were tragic, too and I can think about a lot of reasons for that. This year, even though the loss itself wasn't as painful as the previous two, the circumstances of the Devils losing in the 1st round yet again (plus, without a fight in games 3, 4 and 5) and after aquiring a superstar at the deadline... Disgusting. 2009 I don't even mention, I believe something died inside me during these 80 seconds. What's even more depressing is the fact, that Jersey lost to the three teams their fans hate the most three years in a row. This thread makes me wanna puke. Hi, I'm VALUE!
I don't know this for a fact, but I believe 2009 might be the worst playoff series loss in franchise history, forget the last three years. After that, I can't distinguish between 2008 and 2010 because it's like mirror images. They're basically the same series with the opponent having different uni's on. redruM
the carolina loss was killer, 90 seconds away from the "V" and then "stunned disbelief".. 08 and 10 were similar, uninspired efforts against hated rivals...
Devs3cups
1. Vs. Hurricanes: the game the hurricanes scored with 0.2 sec left...just horrible. And please don't talk to me of game seven. sigh. 2. Vs. philthy: Because we played like sh!t. 3 Vs rangers: We realy played like sh!t!
cubanjd305
'09 is hands down the most heartbreaking. I can still feel the pain caused by that.....

DevsMan84
If you would go by most heart-breaking then I would go with 1) 2009 2) 2008 and 3) 2010 If you go by worst, then it is 1) 2010 2) 2008 and 3) 2009. This is the worst because this is the worst effort I have ever seen from these guys. 2009 was bad, but at least I sensed some sort of effort on their part. MantaRay
1. Hurricanes hurt the most because we just collapsed. 2. Rangers: was sort of predictable because we were overconfident and then beat ourselves. 3. Philly, I wasn't surprised very much because the Devils lost their identity 2010 and were a mediocre team going into the playoffs.
Pepperkorn
Honestly - they've all been equally disappointing because there comes a time you see, plain as day, you are settling in to enjoy ( ) a slow train wreck.
