NewarkDevil5
Tavares is a top ten forward in the league and he gets nothing in terms of local and leaguewide marketing. NJ had a top goalie of all time who had a 15 year prime and they got nothing locally. Lundqvist gets more now than Marty ever did and Brodeur is an all timer. The first time Tavares leads the Islanders deep in the playoffs you'll see the NY media fall in love with him. Brodeur got a lot of attention from the NY media for better or for worse. The Rangers' third liners will still get more attention than anyone the Devils or Islanders put out, but if you see a Lemieux or Crosby type player join an area team, they will be forced to take notice. Neb00rs
this board is so negative now they're convinced they can even lose right.....awesomeness That's really a skewed way of looking at it. It's only negative to sit around here and say 'we suck' and offer no solutions. Personally, my top hope is that we go on a winning streak but it's not negative to predict that that is highly unlikely to happen and discuss ways to move forward. I root for the Devils to win every game and everyone else should to. Looking at the big picture is a different thing. I play in 3-5 hockey leagues a week and realize the difference and reality in having NO CONTROL over what a professional team does or doesn't do in their daily operations, because I go out there 3-5 times a week and actually do decide it my team wins or loses (and 2 of those teams have Championship Games this week )......going out and playing the game does a wonderful job of putting professional teams in their proper perspective
Chuck the Duck
If nothing else, it's something to dream about in this abysmal season. Not likely to happen, but not out of the realm of possibility either. It would be very interesting to see the direction of this organization (marketing, attendance, playing style, etc.) if we landed McDavid. Are you saying that we shouldn't post about how the team should move forward because we don't actually have any effect on the actual product on the ice? Jerzey
I'd be happy with a top 5-7 pick this year. It doesn't make you a bad fan to hope your team loses and gets a good pick in the draft. It's just the way pro sports are these days. http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/story/_/id/12005550/magic-johnson-says-hopes-los-angeles-lakers-lose-every-game "I hope the Lakers lose every game," Johnson told reporters. "Because if you're going to lose, lose. And I'm serious." Lose now, be better later.

I don't think it makes you a bad fan either, because essentially you are rooting for long-term success. I just think that during a game itself, one should not root for their team to lose. That is just against the essence of fandom and supporting one's team. Edited December 18, 2014 by Neb00rs

I could never boo the guys on ice no matter what the situation is. If you aren't there to support the team then don't show up. That being said, I hope we lose a lot of games.

They don't deserve the same treatment. Now if there's a guy named BRUUUUUUUUCE out there I'm all for it. I think JD is just saying that he could never root against the guys on the ice wearing the Devils' logo. I don't think he literally meant 'booing'. I could be wrong of course. No you were exactly right. I've had the logo tattooed on my arm for almost 20 years (1996). They're like family to me.
vadvlfan
It is an absolute MUST that this team draft an impact forward to begin building around. There should be ample opportunity to do that if we pick in the top 5 or 6. Knowing the Devils like we do. "Oh no, you can never turn down grit! We need more Stephan Mateau types here. a first rounder with skill?
Mitico12
The league doesn't favor anyone in the lottery. They get an auditing firm like KPMG to monitor the results. Firms like that do not risk their reputations in order to facilitate a pro hocky league conspiracy. I dunno, Pittsburgh's "luck in the lottery" with Crosby kind of has me doubting the whole process...

Zubie#8
Watch them roll off like a five game winning streak right now. This team is so damn strange I wouldn't be surprised.
hystyk28
What if they finish last get the 1st pick when all said and done, do you entertain trading it to the 2ND draft position team and reap 1 of the 2 best players and get whatever that team is willing to do to make that happen? I like Eichel. Edited December 18, 2014 by hystyk28
squishyx
I dunno, Pittsburgh's "luck in the lottery" with Crosby kind of has me doubting the whole process... The Penguins won with a 6.3% chance of winning, and people here think it was rigged. The Devils jumped from 8th to 4th in 2011 with a 3.6% chance to win and that's what? just the luck of the draw? Some team was going to win, the Penguins had a slight advantage over other teams but that does not mean it was rigged, just the way the cookie crumbled. EdgeControl
its not only about mcdavid or eichel. its simply having the higest pick you can. sure its a crap shoot. but if I have to roll dice I'd want to be betting on a 6, 7, or 8. it improves your chances, allows you more choices and is more valuable for trades. the higher the pick the better off you are. sure we're getting healthy but guess what were probably getting injuries AGAIN
roomtemp
This shows you how little I know about junior hockey... I thought Eichel was a defenseman. Honestly if I can go conspiracy theorist months before hand I wouldn't be shocked if the Flyers "win" that lottery if they are out of a playoff spot Edited December 18, 2014 by roomtemp
Lateralous
I know the 30th placed team's chance of winning the lottery is down to 20%, does anyone know if the odds for the rest of the lottery teams has been published? I like Eichel. That's playing with fire if McDavid turns out to be Manning to Eichel's Ryan Leaf. Not saying that will happen here but I think you take the guy almost everyone thinks is a sure fire #1 and be happy with it. I know Florida moved out of the 1st pick in a few drafts. Since there wasn't a census #1 those years, I think they still got their guy but I don't remember them ever coming away with anything earth shattering for moving down. The league and NBC would play up Crosby-McDavid and Pens-Phailures until the end of time. It would suck balls for many reasons, not the least of which what it would do for the miserable Phailures organization. Triumph
no. mcdavid is a true generational talent. eichel is supposed to be very, very good but mcdavid is another sidney crosby. Eichel is putting up cartoonish numbers for an 18 year old in college. Over 1.5 points/game, 3+ shots/game. I'm not saying he's better, but he seems really, really good also.
