Quinn01 Posted January 11, 2012 Share Posted January 11, 2012 The only thing I'd like to see is DeBoer be a little more consistent if he's going to take this tact with Marty...he can get yanked when he's down to 2-0 in the first period, but play the entire 60 minutes in a 6-1 loss to Boston and a 6-1 loss to Colorado? I agree with this. I dont understand it either. I think that DeBoer just saw something last night that made him feel the team could come back and win it. As soon as I saw the second goal go in, I knew that Marty was done for the night. The goaltending status needs to be more consistent though. I personally would've given Marty one last chance (if he had given up a 3rd goal in that first period, I would've taken him out, even if it wasn't his fault, just to try to get the team going). Yeah. Down 2-0 doesn't normally strike me as a pull the goaltender situation, even the way he allowed them, but I guess PDB was trying to be bold. He was not horrendous in either of these games - he let up one stoppable goal in each, maybe 2, but he wasn't really the reason the team lost either of those games. DeBoer says he's doing it to fire up the team, and that's part of it, but part of it is also that the goalie just did not have it. My point regarding the 6-1 losses is why leave him in there to be shellacked, especially if you're going to be quick to hook him in games like last night's? Whether or not he was horrendous in those games isn't the issue. We all know how old he is and his mileage...why not take take him out of the Boston and Colorado games after the fourth or fifth goal, get him a little rest? Is getting Hedberg a little playing time in games like that a bad thing? Had Marty been left in, it probably wouldn't have made much difference...there's a good chance Colorado would've scored a third goal against him in that first period anyway...I just thought he could've been given another chance to try to salvage his game. It just turned out that Moose was no better last night. It was one of those games where everything went wrong early, and they put themselves in too big of a hole to climb out. Problem is, after last season, everyone has the feeling of impending dread after each loss and starts thinking "is this the beginning of the decline towards last year's first half." The media feeds into it, the players have to answer questions about it, and the fans loose their minds on message boards because they played 1 1/2 bad periods. I think people are past 'that' now, my fear is just missing the playoffs again, having Zach leave because we're going backwards and then living up to the Kovy haters doomsday predictions by becoming the Thrashers.
