July 1st- UFA Madness

Pens are the big winners with Kessel. He should be a lock for 40. Who knows. Maybe 50? Pittsburgh has $38 million invested in 5 players. Sid. Malkin. Kessel. Fleury. Letang. Their top 6 will be top heavy with also Dupuis, Perron and Hornqvist. They'll probably dump Kunitz or Scuderi. Not much depth. They kept Pouliot. Leafs did okay still getting Kapanen and Harrington plus the 1st and 3rd which hinges on if Pens make the playoffs.

When the Bruins signing for Beleskey first came out, I feared something like 5 years, $25 million. 4 for 19 isn't bad. Not sure he'll match the production (22 G) with Bergeron/Krejci. Both are injury prone. The Smith for Hayes deal is interesting. I like Hayes and think he'll continue to get better. Smith is a solid two-way forward.

I like the Habs trading Prust for Kassian. He needs to stay healthy. Definitely a gamble. But might be worth it.

Worst signing. Sharks 4 years at $4.85 mill average for Martin. Talk about mediocrity.

So let me understand this, we need Offense so we sign another Dman??

Is Gelinas going to play wing next year?

Very confussed...

and kessel might score 50 playing with Crosby

Larsson, Greene, Severson, Gelinas, Merrill, Moore.

We still need to sign a #7, so signing Moore was fine.

Seems like there's still room for Oduya, if Shero was so inclined. I wouldn't mind a little more of a veteran presence on the blue line - Greene being the only one with serious experience worries me a little bit.

And if the price and term were right, obviously. Don't need him for 5+ years at 5m+.

How are you so incapable of understanding that after 20 years near the top we need a god dammed motherfvcking rebuild?

IT FVCKING HAPPENS PEOPLE. WE DONT HAVE THE PIECES TO COMPETE THIS YEAR AND THERE ISNT ONE PLAYER WHO CAN CHANGE THAT AVAILABLE TO US.

We aren't going to score goals. We're getting younger, were sucking a little bit to add some pieces like Zacha, and maybe making a trade for a young scorer.

Our problems can NOT be addressed through free agency.

Jesus tittyfvcking christmas.

I almost wish the Devils' official twitter account would tweet something like this.

I swear, the number of "we need goals, sign some forwards!" tweets/comments over the past few days is mind boggling.

Some people get it... Most people don't. This whole concept of rebuilding may as well be rocket science to some folks. They just don't get how it works.

They're not writing it off as much as they're being realistic that trying to fix the team in the immediate is a fool's errand. It's going to take more than one offseason to get this team back to contention. Any move made needs to take this into account. Going out and signing a 30+ UFA for now would cost more than it would benefit.

I still think the team will be more fun to watch then last years putrid squad.

Agree. I like the direction they want to go with the fast paced, attacking game. I think we only played the possession game last season because that's all our guys could really do.

I think this goes without saying. Last year's roster was one of the worst the NHL has seen in a while in my opinion. When was the last time a team was that bad without running mostly kids or a Toronto seriously underachieving with some talent?

Honestly, it'd be hard to ice a less interesting team than Post-PDB last year.

I shouldn't say that, because they could probably find a way this year if Cammy and Severson can't stay healthy.

PLs understand I'm in no way suggesting signed 30 somethings, I've been screaming about LL doing that the past few years, But I would have liked to see the Devs get Saad, ROR?  JVR?

something to give me a little hope...
