There’s no reason whatsoever why a roster with as much talent as the Devils have should be sitting on the outside looking in with respect to the postseason more than two-thirds of the way through the season. And they’re getting worse, not better. Do Lindy and Fitz think the team will suddenly magically play better despite little-to-no adjustments, poorly conceived lineups, and whimsical discipline of two of the team’s better forwards? Does Fitz really believe loyalty to a friend is more important than him doing his job? As @Colorado Rockies 1976 has pointed out several times, any other coach in any other organization would’ve been fired by now. Twenty four years ago next month, a Devils team with the best record in the Eastern Conference fired its head coach because he’d lost the locker room. As acrimonious as that situation was—I was in high school and remember it vividly—the sh!tshow to which we’ve been subjected this season is worse. They’re practically begging for a change with a lot of their uninspired and inconsistent play this season. I wish I had a quarter for every time Ken Daneyko brings up the Devils decision making in their own zone. This place has actually remained remarkably civil even with the disaster of a season. Now if we could just get one dude to stop saying I told you so on a daily basis it would be pretty much be nothing but good interactions.
