roomtemp
This defensive part of being a defenseman is clearly something he's not picking up so why not use him for his offensive ability. Not like the Devils can't use another forward if it works.
Triumph
Because he's not very good at offense, either. That's the little secret - Gelinas has little awareness in any area of the rink. He's not a guy who's a good passer in the offensive zone but struggles with it in the D zone - he would be just as frustrating in the offensive zone losing 1 on 1 battles and not finding the right play on the rush. Plus if you make him a forward his slapshot is no longer a weapon.
Colorado Rockies 1976
If Gelinas played baseball, he'd be Rob Deer...actually, scratch that...Rob Deer was actually a good fielder. Not sure what Gelinas does well outside of having a booming shot.
RunninWithTheDevil
I don't see why not. He has essentially just as much offensive foresight as Matteau does, which is little
EdgeControl
cut his minutes down 5 v 5 and keep him as a PP point man
Devils731
Moving him to forward is just as odd as playing him but then not using him on the PP.
Devilsfan118
I dunno, I don't see the harm in keeping him in the lineup as a PP specialist / rarely used 3rd pairing D-man. Obviously limit him to offensive zone starts as best you can, bench him on the PK and in late-game situations. There's enough talent and depth there to cover his ass imo. Eh I'd rather have a competent 6th defenseman and have Gelinas buried on the 4th line playing like 6 minutes of 5 on 5 a game
nessus
He's not defensively responsible enough to be a forward on this team
capo
His shot is way too good to let rot. He has lapses in play but he could be taught to play wing. He actually reminds me a lot of Rene Bourque. And 4th line winger minutes hurt no one. The upside outweighs the downside. However, the Devils historically don't do well with projects. Gunslinger27
His shot is his gift, I would say PP specialist. Lol he's our Mighty Ducks Fulton Reed #44, without the bash......... Just the shot... AKA Foggy Nelson, lol Edited October 27, 2015 by Gunslinger27
Jerzey
Maybe he should take the Happy Gilmore route.

hystyk28
He diesn't skate anywhere near good enough to play F. His stick is way too long to handle the puck like a forward.
2ELIAS6
i hope they can package him up in some type of trade and move him out.. his shot is literally the only thing he has to offer.

And for that reason, my guess is his trade value is squat. Scouts and GMs are watching the same games we are. AEWHistory
Maybe he should take the Happy Gilmore route. He should challenge Tiger Woods to a golf grudge match because Woods purchased his grandmother's house while it was being seized by the IRS for non-payment of taxes? Hmmm.... okay, I can see that. Pretty common story really.
