There’s literally no one out producing him from his draft class, but people get so hung up on the #1 thing. There’s tons of recent examples of guys going #2 or 3 overall that struggled early and then lit it up, but that apparently means nothing because they weren’t #1. I’d be worried if this came as a surprise, but literally everyone knew Hughes was going to need some time. Kakko was supposed to be the guy who contributed right away, but Hughes would be better overall. One of those things didn’t happen, but the other still can. aylbert
From Scott Wheeler's prospect review for Carolina earlier this month for the Athletic: 8. Janne Kuokkanen, C, 21 (Charlotte Checkers) Kuokkanen is now in the midst of his third straight season as a top-of-the-lineup AHL player. He doesn’t have the same kind of puck skill as most of the other forwards ahead of him on this list, which leads to more of a third-line projection. He’s got versatility to his game that will help him adjust to his role, whatever that may be, though. Kuokkanen can hang onto the puck, create entries and exits, and make plays as a pass-first offensive forward. But he can also play off of his linemates, make quick decisions with the puck, and be relied upon defensively. He’ll need to improve his shot and use it more if he wants to be a multi-faceted threat offensively but he’s got enough skill without having a goal-scoring knack to become a useful NHL player regardless of that fact. I like his hustle off the puck and his size, too, even if he’s not a physical player per se. Edited February 24, 2020 by aylbert
NJDevs4978
So basically they got a prospect that's about a 2nd round worth and another conditional 2, about the best we could have expected if not better (I was thinking we'd have to take a 2 and a 3)
